Iran destroys espionage network linked to CIA

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has infiltrated and dismantled an espionage network tied to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA.

The Ministry’s said Monday that it had captured 17 trained spies working for the American agency in last year and some of the CIA agents had already been given the death penalty.

“The identified spies were employed in sensitive and vital private sector centers in the economic, nuclear, infrastructural, military and cyber areas… where they collected classified information,” the unnamed official said in a statement.

The official said that the suspects had made inroads into key Iranian organizations and institutions mainly in the private sector.

He noted that the CIA mainly used internet to recruit the individuals.

Other tactics included issuing or renewing US visas, hiring Iranian specialists, providing necessary equipment and access to certain participants in scientific events abroad, sending emails and messaging through social.
